Call for participation in the DMP workshop on
The P212 digital media platform for the 2nd decade of the 21st century

(Geneva, 2010/07/24)

In its quest to fulfil its mission to promote continuing successful development, deployment and use of digital media that respect the rights of creators and rights holders to exploit their works, the wish of end users to fully enjoy the benefits of digital media and the interests of various value-chain players to provide products and services the Digital Media Project (DMP) has produced specifications for its Interoperable DRM Platform (IDP), developed an open source implementation (Chillout) and carried out field trials (WIMTV trial at Beijing Olympics).

DMP sees as the next phase of its work plan the task of guiding the industry into the new world of mass deployment of interoperable end-to-end digital media value chains, over and beyond the digital rights management component. DMP believes that the emerging MPEG Advanced IPTV Terminal standard, whose requirements support the basic DMP Open Media Marketplace functionality, is an excellent starting point for the development of an industry-grade digital media platform that we call dmp21-2 platform, or simply P21-2, for use by members who have contributed to its development.

DMP intends to hold a workshop in Dresden, DE on 2010/04/24 to discuss the manifold aspects underpinning the establishment and management of such an ambitious project as P21-2. We seek speakers addressing any of the following topics

DMP will hold the first P212 meeting on the following day (25 April). This will be open to DMP members and invited technical experts.

Please see the attached dmp1289 document for further details on the P21-2 project.
